Perfect Continuous Tense
Past
Perfect Continuous Tense is used to show an activity that started before the
time of speaking on the past time and go on until that time, or finish nearly
before the people speaking. This form is almost same with Present Continuous
Tense, except that activity is done on the past time.

There are 4 condition types that can show you on past perfect
continuous tense :
1.
Tell
about activity from Past Perfect Tense that still happen until now.
As the example, “I had been joining the
class since January when you told me that you were moving to my class.”
2.
Is
used if you want to focus about result that happened after an activity had been
done. The activity was happened on the past time and perhaps would not you do again.
Usually, word of “all day long, all night long, ect” are used to show the long
time when do the job.
For example, “I had been working all
day long when you called me. I was tired.”
3.
Is
also used if want show the progress from an activity, same with Past Perfect
Tense, just happened on the past time.
For the example, “I had been thinking
about changing my clothes when my friends told me that it was bad.”
4.
Can
be used in undirect sentense, the
sentense tell back what have told
before.
Example, “I went to see Tom
yesterday. He looked tired. He said, ‘I have been working all day today’”
He said that he had been working all day long yesterday. That was why he looked tired.
